A Place in the Wilderness

It's been awhile since I've updated my blog. I've been keeping busy though, and trying to fit in time to work on my artwork in my free time.

Here is my most recent piece, it is 14x11" on cold press watercolor paper.

Why is there a lone tree? If the image is called "A Place in the Wilderness" ... why not have the setting be in a forest? shrubs? thicket? other plants?
It just doesn't feel like wilderness. It feels like a back yard with some unknown species of driftwood tree coming out of the grass.

I agree with Lotus on everything said above. The perspective is out of whack.

Guys thank you for the comments, I agree with what was said about the ground and perspective, and I think I know what I can do to fix it.

My concept for this piece was not to show a conventional idea of "wilderness", I.E. a forest, but instead a sort of barren idea of wilderness, since really wilderness can be any kind of uninhabited nature.
